Bible Story Poem

Jonah And The Whale
(Jonah's Chastisement)

Now, there's a Bible Story, that we all know well;
It's all about Jonah, in the belly of a whale.
God told Jonah to go to Nineveh, and preach against their wicked ways,
But Jonah did not want to go, and so he disobeyed.

Then Jonah rose up early to catch a ship flowing out to sea;
To the city of Tarshish, he was preparing to flee.
He was running from the Lord's commands, and words that he had spoken,
So the Lord sent his tempest tides, and Jonah's ship was nearly broken.

But, Jonah had gone down to the side of the ship, and there was fast asleep;
Then, the shipmaster said,"Pray to your Lord, our lives to safely keep."
So, Jonah told the captain to toss him out to sea,
For it was his disobedience to the Lord, that caused their awful plea.

Then the shipmaster and crew, threw Jonah overboard;
And yelled at him as he went down," You're at the mercy of your Lord."
But the Lord then sent a giant whale, to swallow Jonah whole,
So for three days and nights, the Lord waxed havoc on his soul.

Then Jonah begged forgiveness, for disobeying God's commands;
While the Lord spoke to the whale, to spit him out upon dry land.
Thus Jonah being thankful, and giving God His praise,
Traveled on to Nineveh, to proclaim their wicked ways.
