A dear friend of mine has just rung me up because she said I always pray for people. But this time I feel so inadequate. She is a Christian and though she, and her husband, have had such a terrible time, she says she has had help all along the way, and that God gives her the strength for each day.
She and her husband were in need of a holiday, she is a retired teacher from a Christian school, but helps out a lot at her church and has had a lot of troubled teenagers coming to her for help.
But, only a short time into the holiday, her husband Mike became ill. It is a long story but involves him being air-lifted from the ferry to be taken to hospital. It seems he has two problems- he has had a heart attack and also some digestive complaint that caused bleeding.
He is now at home, but still very ill and has to go for a lot of tests. It is still thought that it could be extremely serious. It is the first time I feel so inadequate in prayer. My friend (Glynys) is a wonderful Christian and has been an inspiration to me.
I feel humble that she should ask me to pray for Mike. (He is also a Christian but in a different way- Glynys is a vibrant, up-beat, inspirational Christian. Mike is slightly more morose, as some older men do become! I pray that he feels free from fear, and experiences the deep joy of being close to Jesus, in spoite of his illness.)
All I can do is to hold them both in my heart before the Lord and shed a few tears for them She has been such an inspirational Christian friend, over the years. I am a poor example of a Christian by comparison.
She knows that all she needs is strength for each day. She hasn't always had good health herself. I pray with all my heart that Mike pulls through this and they both are brought closer together and closer to Jesus. Please pray for them both, and pray, that I find the right things to do and say, to show I care. (Family are helping with the practical things)
I know that the Bible tells us that the Spirit helps us in prayer. Words seem inadequate right now. Please pray for my dear friend and her very sick husband, Thank you so much. God Bless

I am praying for Glynys and Mike, and for you too. It is so wonderful to see Christians supporting each other in faith and prayer. It brings such comfort to my heart. I know it pleases God so much. He loves to see His precious children helping each other. Be at peace. God will hear our prayers for Mike. You, Glynys & I will pray and support Mike in faith. We are all one family in Christ. Do keep us informed about Mike's health. God bless.

I know I haven't been on this board for a while. But I now have some great news about Glynys and Mike.
It was originally thought that Mike was so ill that if he got home, it would probably be to die there and go home to Jesus. The originalthinking was that he had cancer as well as having had a heart attack.
But today, I received a lovely letter from Glynys thanlking me and everyone I had told to pray for Mike (so that means people on this messageboard, too, of course!)
Mike is slowly recovering. Upon further investigation at the hospital, they found no trace of cancer- just a small polyp which they said can be safely and quickly removed under sedation. Their daughter, Anya, says it is a miracle!!
I thank God with all of my heart that Mike is recovering. Thanks to all who prayed.
Please pray that he continues to recover- and pray for Glynys as she has suffered alot of ill health herself and is under such stress looking after Mike. She has such wonderful faith and such love for Jesus.
I am so happy that Mike is recovering after he was not expected to get well. To God be the glory! Thank you so much, Father God, for this wonderful answer to prayer!

Thank you so much for your prayers for Mike. Glynys rang me to pass on thanks for all our prayers.
But PLEASE go on praying!
She told me that Mike is not "out of the woods" yet.
He was cleared of cancer but the surgeon said they can't be 100% sure till they operate properly, a biopsy isn't always enough in these cases.
Also his heart problem is bad for a man who is relatively young to have such blocked arteries. It is not due to bad lifestyle and diet- it is purely hereditary.
Glynys has asked for our continued prayers. She is "bearing up" but very upset at times. She has developed high blood pressure herself.
Both Glynys anhd Mike have a strong faith. She says "Love always comes with a price. Look at the price Jesus paid for it!"
This is SO true.
Please continue to pray for this loving Christian couple. Thank you so much. God bless you all.

I have heard from Glynys after a few weeks of silence. She tells me that Mike needs prayer as he is shortly to have a bypass operation for his heart.
They cannot do anything about his other problem until this is done.
Glynys says "...they cancelled the gastric surgery becauseit is essential that hisheart is dealt with first. Between you and I, I am concerned about the time.Further biopsies still show no malignancy but I don't want the time laspe to give rise to complications. Please pray about this for us."
Please, dear friends, will you join me in a prayer for these dear friends of mine?

No more news yet but Glynys says that she and Mike feel uplifted by your prayers and are still able to praise God for the many blessings- and the love they receive.

Thank you so much for your prayers. I have some wonderful news!
Mike and Glynys were worried that Mike would have a long wait till his heart operation. He was told that he couldn't have the digestive tract operation done until the heart operation was completed.
He said he'd take a cancellation if one turned up- and praise God it HAS!!!!
Mike has had a triple bypass operation - which of course is a major operation but- here's the wonderful way God works- Visitors were told that the day after the operation he would have tubes all over him and be on a breathing machine and it might be alarming for them
But- Mikes's family visitors arrived -and by some miracle , he defied all the predictions and was sitting up in bed with not a tube in sight!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Praise God for that.
Not only that- he began to walk sooner and further than anyone dared hope for, as he was determined to go home!
Now he is home and recovering well!!
They are both praising God for His goodness. It is wonderful news!

We are so delighted to hear about Mike's successful heart operation. God's ways are so amazing and marvellous. What a great love He has for His dear children. He touches their lives in so many ways, and makes difficult pathways easy for them. What a mighty God we have! Amen.

Thank you for your prayers. Mike continues to do well- and both he and Glynys feel uplifteed and sustained by all our prayers.
Mike has njot had the operation to remove the polyp yet- but I gather there is no rush. The main thing is that his heart operation went well. He is looking a lot better. He was always a young-looking man for his age, but illness had made him very pale and frail looking. He is starting to look more robust again.
Thank you again for your prayers. We continue to praise God for His goodness to Glynys and Mike, who have always been faithful workers in their Church.

Praise God for wonderful answers to prayer!
Mike is keeping well and now, although he's officially retired from his work as an English teacher, he is working for The Sycamore Tree, a Christian organisation to help boys in young offenders prisons get an education and get their lives back on track.
Thank you so much for your prayers and Praise God for a wonderful answer!
