It's hard to believe that 8 months have gone by since I've been here with an update. I'm so very sorry. I've been involved 24/7 caring for Carol with everything as she could do nothing by herself. So much has happened during that time that I could fill up pages explaining everything. It's been so long that you would need to go back through the previous posts to know where I left off.
Meds didn't do any good, no surgeon wanted to operate, and Carol just kept getting worse until heart function went down to 11% early Jan. Finally one cardiologist agreed to operate, but we were advised she most likely would not survive. However, without surgery she had no chance. Carol's surgery date was set for Jan. 24.
We started praying like never before. I put the word out to a couple of prayer teams. Within days I started receiving notes and e-mails of support from people I never heard of before from all over this country and beyond as far as Alaska, Australia, and Brazil. Hundreds of people! Some people said they were committed to prayer and fasting on the day of Carol's surgery. One lady from NC established a "Pray A Miracle For Carol Theme" on Jan 24 with her prayer chain. It was truly awesome to see God at work behind the scenes.
Two days before the surgery Carol told me it was good the surgery was soon, because she didn't think she could go on for another week - and I think she was right. On the day of surgery I was praying for the best, but prepared for the worst. I was with her as she was wheeled to the OR. When we got to the OR door, I held the face of my wife of 44 years in my hands, kissed her, told her I loved her, then I told her to turn her eyes on Jesus. Carol went into the OR with a smile on her face.
The surgery lasted 5 1/2 hours. We truly saw a miracle on that day - she had survived the surgery! Carol was in ICU four days and in the hospital nine days. That was 9 weeks ago. She has a long way to go and has been told by doctors she would not begin to feel better for another 5-6 months. Her heart must grow new tissue and strengthen - but it will happen. Soon she will be strong enough to begin therapy. In a couple of months Carol will need to have a special dual purpose defibrilator implanted. One function would intervene for a cardiac arrest event, and the other function would send a elect. impulse to the heart muscle to boost each and every heartbeat.
Carol is still with us and getting better slowly each day. God still has plans for her. It's been so hard over the past 1 1/2 years and I've been so tired, but waiting on the Lord for His provision has been a time of strengthening our faith and trust in Him. We are all just lumps of clay in the Master Potter's hands being molded, shaped, and refined into the vessels He would want us to be for His honor and glory.
Thank you for your prayers, your patience and I hope you understand my absence over these months. I promise to be back much more often in the weeks ahead.
God bless!
Don

Hi Don,
Thank you so much for updating us about Carol. We are so grateful to God for bringing her safely through her heart surgery. Our prayers are always with you, and we eagerly look forward to each update we receive from you. We are seeing wonderful answers to prayer. God is so great, and His ways are truly awesome. If you are unable to come here often, please do send us an e-mail once in a while to update us on Carol's health and your peace of mind. We are constantly praying for you both. Keep in touch when you can. We would really appreciate it.
God bless, Miriam.

Don's reply was received by e-mail. It is posted here. God bless.
Thank you, Miriam, for your prayers, your support and your understanding. Over the years I have seen God intervene in our lives in mighty ways where He has provided a way when there seemed to be no way - in answer to fervent prayer. However, during our recent trials, I have never before seen such a massive outpouring of support from God's people, and most are from people I never heard of before. Thanks again - I'll keep in touch.
Don
