DO THEY BELIEVE YOU
“A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another. By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.”
John 13: 34, 35
King James Version
Yesterday I saw Sandi Patty on one of the Gaither Homecoming shows on television. She is one of my spiritual heroes and has been a source of encouragement and inspiration to me countless times. She was singing “I Just Saw Jesus”. As I saw the joy, happiness, peace, excitement and smile on her face, I realized that she was indeed in the presence of Jesus. She not only sings for Jesus, she sings with Jesus. I felt like I was literally in the presence of Jesus. My heart was filled with awe and gratitude to realize that one day I will see my beloved Saviour face to face. What a glorious and joyous day that will be!
One day Jesus is coming back with a triumphant shout of victory for all of those who have been saved (born again), have their sins forgiven and have been washed and cleansed in His precious atoning blood and invited Him to come into their hearts and be their personal Saviour. On that glorious and wonderful day, not only will we be with Him for all eternity, He will be with the ones that He gave His life for on a cross of agony and torture. Hallelujah! Praise the King of Kings! All glory to the Lamb of God! O how I long for that day!
My prayer partner, Kathi, not only writes for Jesus, she writes with Jesus and when I read her books and her devotionals I am in the presence of Jesus. Kathi is also one of my spiritual heroes and I believe that she really loves Jesus because her love for Him shines through in everything that she says and does and in the expressions on her face. How I praise God for bringing us together as she is a vital part of the ministries that God has entrusted to me. When your family, loved ones and friends look at you, do they believe that you have seen Jesus and that you love Him? We sing a song “They’ll know that we are Christians by our love”. When you sing that song, are you singing it from your heart or are they merely words to you?
In this passage of scripture for this devotional, Jesus tells us not only to love one another, but to love them as He loves us. Are we really loving others the way that He loves us? If we were to see Jesus face to face right now could we look Him in the eyes with confidence knowing that we have loved others the way He has commanded us to love them, or would we have to hang our heads in shame?
How sad it is that we expect others to love us unconditionally and to forgive us when we hurt them, but many times we aren’t willing to forgive them when they hurt us and we don’t love them unconditionally. How dare we go to our Heavenly Father and ask Him to forgive us when we don’t forgive others! Do your children believe that you love Jesus? Do they see Him in your actions and hear Him when you talk? We will never be able to lead our children to Jesus unless they first see Him in us.
