IMPERFECT
Our home collects imperfect things- The hopeless rejects Nature brings! Those trays of plants, half dead and pleading- For some tender care they’re needing! The fish we had- with crooked tail The scruffy cat who’d sit and wail Outside our house, with such a din Till we relented- let him in!
For all the care that we afforded We always found we’ve been rewarded- That shrivelled plant, not worth a bean Grew glorious blooms, the best we’ve seen, That fish, despite its quirky motion Could rival any in the ocean- A king of fish- with shining scales And lacy fins like golden veils.
The scruffy cat so thin and tiny Grew sleek and fit with fur so shiny Established territorial rights- Kept all rivals in his sights- But though he made these rivals cower- Would sit on knees for many an hour!
Yes- our home nurtures reject creatures- And don’t we find this ethos features Within the Bible’s sacred cover- It’s where we rejects may discover- Though weak and sinful, always falling- That we can answer Jesus’ calling. And what a privilege this brings- Adopted by the King of Kings! Give thanks for all that we are given For we’re not perfect- just forgiven!
