INSPIRING THOUGHTS
by Professor George Mathew
About Finance:
Money is not mine, it belongs to God. I don't love money. Whatever things I have, they are not mine, but are entrusted to me by God for faithful stewardship. (1 Tim. 6: 6-10)
Motivation to Give:
I always try to be regular in giving for missionary work. In addition to this, chances to give to the different needs of others. My main motivation in giving is 2 Corinthians 8: 9 "For you know the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, that though He was rich, yet for your sakes He became poor, so that you through His poverty might become rich."
And another verse Acts. 20:35. " In every thing I did, I showed you that by this kind of hard work we must help the weak, remembering the words the Lord Jesus himself said: 'It is more blessed to give than to receive'."
My father Late C V Mathew, who had a real passion for the lost souls, was a model for me in giving. In the midst of financial constraints in our home, he was happy to share to the needs of others. Since I came from a financially poor background, I know the pain and difficulty of those in need. I am grateful to God for bringing me to an unimaginable position, as far as I am concerned, from my difficult environment. These are the things that motivate me in giving. It is not me, but my Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ who abides in me doing His work through me. All glory to God. God has also allowed me to experience the joy of receiving help from others. I thank God for them who stood with me and helped me financially also in my need. Families stretched their hands out to us to meet expenses. So I know the joy of not only giving but also receiving help from others. This was an unforgettable experience in my life.
Make people aware of the needs of the ministry. When we sincerely and wholeheartedly pray for the ministry, our Lord will give burden in our hearts to give to the needs. Be broadminded in giving, do not be selfish in giving to the local ministry only.
Even in the time of studies, students can contribute financially to the ministry.I thank God for the many students who excelled in this by their simple lifestyle and their sacrificial giving to the ministry. First of all every student must own the ministry as if it is entrusted to him/her by the Lord. Students can earn money in different ways by a little bit of sacrifice in their spending for their own needs. Again I stress the point that they should taste the sweetness of giving. We have to give ourselves to the Lord first. I see why many of our young graduates when they get very good salary are reluctant to give for God's ministry is because they have not got the awareness of their responsibility to spend and to be spent for the Lord in their student life. All of us know how to spend lavishly for our own selfishness.
Yes, first of all I thank God for the great vision of our founding fathers, especially the faith policy in giving. Trusting in the ever-faithful Lord in all things. He has been faithful. I thank God for the adherence of our ministry family to the faith policy, and their sacrificial giving for the extension of His Kingdom.
Our sincere and diligent prayers are needed for God's provision to meet the needs for every month. We have failed to pass on the vision of the founding fathers to the new generation, lack of teaching about giving and simple lifestyle, failed to be role models for our students and young graduates. So let us go to the basics of our unique ministry, to teach the students and graduates about giving from the Scripture. I thank God for the many students and graduates who are sacrificially and cheerfully giving to our ministry. The blessing we get is not for our own, but for others to be blessed.
The grace and peace from God our Father and the Lord Jesus Christ be with us.
