SENTENCE PRAYERS
by JOAN CLIFTON COSTNER
I read it in Isaiah ~
That my name is in His hand,
Engraved there, and indelible ~
Always with Him in that land;
And, I knew that you were burdened,
That you really needed prayer~
So I wrote your name in my hand and
I’m glad I put it there.

For, the day went by as usual,
Still, reminded now and then
I would say a prayer with your name
Ever in it ~ (you’re my friend!)
When finally it faded and
It grew a little dim,
I took my pen up in my hand and
Wrote it back again!

I know God heard the prayers I said
For, when you passed my way
The care lines melted from your face ~
It was a brighter day!
There was a glow about you ~
Your step was lighter too,
And I thanked God for a clever way
Of remembering prayer for you!
