NO JESUS EQUALS NO CHRISTMAS
by JOANNE LOWE
“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord. And this shall be a sign unto you; Ye shall find the babe wrapped in swaddling clothes, lying in a manger.”
Luke 2: 11, 12
King James Version
It is with sadness that I write this devotional because of what I read in the paper this morning. I read, I don’t remember where it was, that a manager scene has been displayed without Jesus. Without Jesus, there is no Christmas because Jesus is Christmas! It is possible to remove prayers and Bible reading from schools and still have schools, but it is impossible to remove Jesus from a manger scene and still have Christmas. Christmas is the celebration of the birth of Jesus.
We give gifts to our loved ones and friends at Christmas because we love them. However, the greatest gift ever given to us was our salvation. It is free to us but Jesus paid the price for it with His life. We will never be able to do anything to deserve His Love, mercy, grace, understanding and forgiveness. It is given to us from His heart of Love.
I heard someone make this statement a couple of months ago “I stayed home while my friends were going out and studied the Bible and spent extra hours in prayer so everything I have now, I earned”. Dear people, that is a lie straight from the pits of hell! None of us deserve anything. We all deserve to go to hell because of our sins. We can’t buy His Love or earn it because it is only through the finished work of Jesus on the cross that we are saved and justified. Thank God that He Loves us enough to provide the way to have eternal life through the shed blood of His Son, Jesus.
As you celebrate Christmas this year, I plead with you to remember Jesus. Please don’t leave Him out of your plans and your day. Have you thought about what you are going to give Jesus for His birthday present? If you haven’t given Him your heart, it would make Him very happy if you would give your heart to Him. Just as you sing Happy Birthday when someone has a birthday, don’t forget to sing Happy Birthday to Jesus on Christmas Day.
