AM I TAKING TOO LONG
“Let the redeemed of the Lord say so, whom he hath redeemed from the hand of the enemy; And gathered them out of the lands, from the east, and from the west, from the north, and from the south. For whosoever shall be ashamed of me and of my words, of him shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he shall come in his own glory, and in his Father’s, and of the holy angels.”
Psalm 107: 2, 3
Luke 9:26
King James Version
A very dear pastor friend gave me a tape with one of her sermons. I have lost count of the number of times I have listened to it. I listened to it three times last night and four times today. I always get something new out of the sermon. Before the pastor starts preaching, a man is giving his testimony and I guess he thinks it’s time to be quiet because he asks “Am I taking too long”? Every time I hear him say that, my heart breaks. How sad, dear friends, that we have to stop telling about all the wonderful things Jesus has done for us. We read in the Bible “Quench not the Spirit.” (1 Thessalonians 5: 19) Yet all too often we are guilty of this very thing.
I have been unable to attend church for almost two years due to arthritis but when I was going and the pastor would ask for testimonies I was the first one to stand up. It was usually the same people who stood up every time. I used to think “How can these people stay in their seats and not tell all the wonderful things Jesus has done for them”? The pastor would wait about five minutes after the last person stood up to see if somebody else wanted to get up and testify, but nobody would stand up.
I submit to you that if you have made a heart commitment to Jesus you will be unable to stay in your seat when the pastor asks for testimonies. You will have a burning desire and excitement in your heart to tell others about our wonderful Saviour. You don’t have to be a professional speaker to give a testimony. God is not impressed with big fancy words; His heart is touched by the sincerity and condition of our hearts. The first time I gave my testimony I was extremely nervous because I had never spoke in public before and I was afraid that I would stammer and not make sense. However, once I started talking about Jesus I forgot about myself. I was eager to tell others of all the wonderful things that He had done for me.
One day we won’t have to sit down and be quiet. One day we will see Him face to face. What a day that will be, and what joy and excitement floods my heart when I think of seeing my very best friend, Jesus! We will have a testimony time that will never end for all eternity. Never again will we have to ask “Am I taking too long”?
