PRECIOUS FEET
“When therefore the Lord knew how the Pharisees had heard that Jesus made and baptized more disciples than John, (Though Jesus himself baptized not, but his disciples,) He left Judea, and departed again into Galilee . And he must needs go through Samaria . Then cometh he to a city of Samaria , which is called Sychar, near to the parcel of ground that Jacob gave to his son Joseph. Now Jacob’s well was there. Jesus therefore, being wearied with his journey, sat thus on the well: and it was about the sixth hour.”
John 4: 1 – 6
King James Version
I have been thinking about Jesus all day long. I wonder how many miles He walked when He was here on earth. He didn’t have a car to take Him places like we do. There were no buses or taxicabs. Jesus was human and He got tired just like we do so He certainly understands when we get weary with our journey.
I’m sure that His heart also grew weary from all the criticism, ridicule, sarcasm and rejections that He had to endure every day. I believe that to Him the longest walk He ever took was the day He walked to Mount Calvary to be crucified for us. Imagine what must have been going through His mind while He was taking His last walk on earth.
Being human, I’m sure that He was feeling very lonely, hurt, and rejected. He was in pain because He had been beaten but I believe with all of my heart that the pain He felt in His heart was greater than the physical pain He endured for us.
There is a beautiful song that I have heard many times and it never fails to inspire me. “Trying to walk in the steps of the Savior, Trying to follow our Savior and King; Shaping our lives by His blessed example, Happy, how happy the songs that we bring. How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior, Stepping in the light, stepping in the light, How beautiful to walk in the steps of the Savior, Led in paths of light”.
Are we really trying to walk in His steps and follow His example or are we still walking the way we want to go? Are we still doing the things that we want to do even though we know that it is not His perfect will for our lives? Do we go to places that He has told us not to go? Are we walking in the light of Jesus and His joy, His peace and His unconditional love or are we walking in the darkness of satan with hatred, bitterness and resentment in our hearts?
Thank God that one day our precious Saviour walked to the cross so that we might have the forgiveness of our sins and have the assurance of a home in Heaven for all eternity. He gave His life to prove how much He loves us. What are we doing to prove our love for Him? Our Saviour not only is wonderful, gracious, kind, understanding, tender, compassionate, forgiving and merciful, He also has precious feet!
