PINKY
The dawn is yet to streak the sky, just waiting for the day to arrive. The thought about my horse-riding lessons kept me awake all night. The gentle soft-spoken man, he had a wave of the hand acquaintance with many children. The best teacher I had ever met, he was tall and gangly with a shock of white hair and ancient clothes. He patiently taught me to ride my Pinky.
Pinky was sweet and lovely. She was white-legged and white-tailed. It was my nature to open the barn early morning, to brush Pinky and to feed her. Pinky waits for the routine visit. The streaming sunlight glittered and her mane was shining. Waiting for my arrival, blowing steam through her nostrils in the chilly cold air, she welcomed me.
Pinky had a special love for children. Children from far and wide came to see her. She remained very calm when children rode on her. In fact her pride was shown on her face when children climbed on her back. My little Pinky is sweet. She is my everything. I live for her and she lives for me. She is a God-given gift to me and to many children in the neighbourhood. Long live Pinky.
