MOTHER, MY GREATEST WONDER
by JUSTINE
Oh Mother, my root and origin,
what other wonder knoweth I but you?
Gleefully I lay in a regal couch in your womb,
where I reigned for 9 months
in a stately ambience.
Though I entered it incognito,
you knew I had arrived
You celebrated my arrival with health lapses,
people calling you a weakling,
Yet you couldn't help but to bravely announce my presence.
Soon, the daunting news came;
"There is a complication", threatened the Doctor
"Terminate the pregnancy", their orthodox demand.
But you pledged your life for me,
A ransom to death, you became,
and all nights you wept that I may be well,
Later, with screams of pain and agony, you brought me forth.
A midget, almost lifeless being.
Sleepless nights, your portion
Keeping watch over my frail frame always, and
massaging strength into my vulnerable body,
You wrapped warmth all around me.
The happiest smile I ever knew was in your face,
when you peered into my tiny eyes
as though to question my innocence.
You lowered your self towards me and kissed my tender lips,
and planted love in the deep of my heart,
Love that only you can give,
Which flowed like a fountain that drips incessantly.
Mother, my Wonder,My Love,
Great and amazing you are.
You deciphered all my prattles, Mother my PRO,
every shriek of mine, your priority.
Nights were like day as I kept you busy,
till dawn, to dusk -till dawn again and again.
You tutored me on words to speak,
my first step was on your laps.
Even when I brandished my tiny hands against you,
A sanctuary you were to me
and I knew no terror
Mother, my security officer, bolder than a lioness with her cubs.
Quietly you watched as I became like you,
You saw it all, Mother.
When love courted my heart, you were the first to notice.
The shyness on my face and my demeanor told it all.
Shock me, you did Mother
when you asked me,"How is your lover"?
That way, you amazed me.
And when everyone denied me,you were there for me.
Oh Mother, my greatest Wonder, my Love.
