Patience
Patience chooses a gentle answer,
Casts gentle candle-light
Where there were piercing laser beams,
Holds the hand that irritates the most
Gathers the weapons
Before they do the damage.
But -
Patience - waits like an abandoned child
It's not easy to remember-
Before you load the gun
And fire the hasty words
That Patience waits on God's helpline!
Hardest when a repetitive tide
Washes up a cargo of old whinges,
When parents sleep on a drifting boat of dreams
That is suddenly ship-wrecked
By a whale of wails;
When the children steal Mum's nail varnish
To create interesting murals
On a newly painted wall.
When life's journey's tyres are shredded
On a thousand irritations
And you're having a bumpy ride.
When old habits are dyed
By glaring green grumbles.
When household appliances
All take strike action together,
When the Computer senses
The oncoming deadline for your work,
Laughs in your face and chews it up.
And predictable behaviour, and
The same worn-out words loom
On the horizon - and you think,
'Say that again and I'll scream!'
Lord, give me the sense
To ring that Helpline,
To stop myself saying bad words- please press 1
To curb my temper- please press 2
To give a gentle answer-please press 3
To offer words of wisdom- please press 4
To stop myself going off my head-please press 5
Any other inquiries-
Please refer to Proverbs Chapter 15 1 and 2;
Galatians Chapter 5 : verses 22, 23.
And .........
don't.........
forget ........
...........to pray!
