PRAYER
This is a place of prayer,
High swept to the winds and weathered trees,
A breeze from Wirral waters and the Cheshire plain.
This is where prayers, once framed by rainbows,
Were wrapped in a remnant silk of sky
And sent on wings to reach you where you were.
This is a place of love,
A cooling lake, softened by
Green and worshipping trees,
Dipping their leaves in holy waters.
And this is where love, distilled and purified by rain
Is yours to draw on, even should I fade, as time
Draws curtains, and the distance deepens
In the race of life.
This is a space I’ve kept for you; a green and growing shrine
Where prayers, saved to the rippling waters, never silenced
Murmur their pleas for ever.
