The Ultimate Comeback
God’s March!
Your weakness is stronger than your enemy’s strength when God amplifies it!
The Ultimate Comeback, p. 123-124
Scripture Reading
“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they will not overflow you. When you walk through the fire, you will not be scorched, nor will the flame burn you.”
–Isaiah 43:2
Those lepers had decided that at the very least, a quick death is better than a slow one. It is interesting to me that when they started marching, apparently, so did God.
God was on the move! Often the only thing necessary to get God to move is for man to move first!
Since these men lived with leprosy for some time, their bodies were undoubtedly showing the strain. The famine hadn’t helped things either. They must have been emaciated, weak, and unsteady on their feet. Even the act of clambering to their feet may have been a major challenge that left them breathless.
As they walked they realized that the further they went, the more resolved they felt. Their feet began to move together to a unified beat, and perhaps they began to pick up the pace. I think they could actually smell the food simmering in the Syrian pots long before they could see anything.
We've learned from the experience of Naaman, the leper, that God is waiting for an excuse to bless you. The obedience of the four lepers to their inner prompting linked with their risk-it-all attitude gave God the excuse He was looking for.
God could have used four nobles or five city elders, or a single king from Samaria, but He didn’t. He could have hand-chosen four Israeli Green Berets or Samarian SEALS—but none of them seemed to be listening that night. The only ones willing to step up were four lepers. And that was all He needed to break the enemy’s chokehold on the city.
The Bible tells us the four lepers started walking, and roughly during the same period the Syrians started hearing things…big things, loud things, sounds like warhorses and a mighty army of foot soldiers on the march.
The Bible doesn’t spell out the divine methods involved, but it sure gives us a strong hint that those lepers were involved in some way. Could it be that anytime you turn toward the promise and away from the past, angels fall in step behind you, marching with you to your destiny?
Prayer:
Lord, I know that You are just waiting for me to move so You can bless me. I know that if I step out in faith, that You will meet me and fight against my enemies. I don’t know how You can do it. I just know that You can do it! I put my hope in You! AMEN.
