SIMPLE FAITH
(A tribute to a friend’s mother and a wonderful Christian lady.)
We said Goodbye to Muriel today, Friends and family frozen In the harsh light, Familiar faces drawn so pale with nervous pain.
Yet there was joy, real joy That broke the grey sky’s shell And came to dwell among us! The kindly priest, white robed Spoke of a life lived with a simple faith A smile that rested- from an undivided heart Trust of a child that followed all the way A hand held out to grasp and still held on Throughout the darker, desperate days.
She was her own small sermon Loving in her warm and simple way And shining with her rays of certainty Into the deep sad doubt of other souls.
The smile that said it all, And they all spoke of that And when the light streamed in, we felt Her smile had lit the room And she was home.
