THE STORY OF RUTH
In the town of Bethlehem, five miles south-west of Jerusalem, pandemonium reigned. Ironically named "house of bread," Bethlehem was in the grip of an intense famine. Times were hard and in every home, frugal meals became the norm of the day.
One particular family decided that they could endure the incessant pinching and scraping no longer. Elimelech, his wife, Naomi and their two sons, Mahlon and Chilion were moving to Moab, a neighbouring country north-east of the Dead Sea. Their home became a flurry of activity as hectic preparations were made for the long and arduous journey. It had not been easy for Elimelech and his wife, Naomi to take this momentous decision. The famine in Judah, with its subsequent privations and frustrations had compelled them to take this desperate step, a move that would affect their entire lives forever. For Elimelech and Naomi, things would never be quite the same again.
