FOR A NEWLY APPOINTED ELDER OF THE CHURCH
This day, dawns with a promise And you, born to bring healing And heir to a promise, are called To wade in the deeper waters. May the fruits in your life ripen, And swell, long-grafted in the vine. And, holding forth the word, Bring the life to the lifeless, Hope for those despairing; Lost in a world of shadows Where worth is defined by an image; One half, dying for want of care, The other dying for want of truth. I pray that your words ring out Born of the spirit’s fire, And clear streams of compassion. No need to varnish The rough wood of the cross But speak the truth in love.
