Karl Marx: “Give me twenty-six lead soldiers and I will conquer the world.”
It may seem strange to start a devotional with a quote from Karl Marx, but it seems so appropriate that I decided to go for it. He said, “Give me twenty-six lead soldiers and I will conquer the world.”
Marx was, of course, referring to the alphabet as the “twenty-six lead soldiers” needed to conquer the world. Now we, as Christian writers, may not be out to conquer the world, but we serve the One who has already done so. Jesus said in John 16:33, “In the world you will have tribulation; but be of good cheer, I have overcome [conquered] the world.” God has called us as writers to proclaim the Good News that He has indeed already conquered the world. Whereas Karl Marx recognized the power of the written (and spoken) word and wanted to use it to accomplish his own selfish purposes, God wants us to use the power of those twenty-six lead soldiers to tell a hurting world that God loves them so much that He sent His only Son to die for them, and to call them back to the Father’s heart. Whether we write fiction or nonfiction, children’s books, devotionals, poetry, magazine articles, short stories, plays, or movie scripts, our focus must remain true to God’s purpose for entrusting us with those twenty-six lead soldiers. May we do so honorably today and always.
Gratefully standing side-by-side with you all in service to our conquering King….
