You still here, Lord? Step now
Let's take a step today, okay? (He said it would be fun, remember?) Choose something that's troubling you right now. Is it a health problem? A family concern? A job dilemma? Pick one pocket of insecurity and follow this exercise.
Step 1. Hold your problem in one hand and place your other hand in God's hand, You can't do that if He's a mile away, so sit right there beside Him while we do this. Let's use a financial concern for our example, since most of us have been attacked by that insecurity a time or two.
Step 2. Tell the Lord everything that's bothering you about the problem. I know it sounds silly so tell Him what He already knows, but this step is for you--to corral your thoughts, renew your choice, and focus your prayer. Tell Him out loud if you want to.
Step 3. Listen for Him to reveal a truth about Himself that you need to know concerning this particular kind of problem. For our example, we need to know the part of God that imparts wisdom and cares about our well-being, the part that we are. We need to know His devotion to us when a part of our world is our of our control. We need to know that He has a far better plan that we could ever conceive. We need to know that He will instill is us the ability and insight we need to make tough decisions about our lives. Listen. Learn. Believe.
Step 4. Claim that truth God has taught you for your own, just for you, right now. Personalize it and repeat it to yourself over and over. Reinforce His teachings in your mind, and you'll feel them in your heart. Yes, He is always the same, for you and for me, but He will reveal to your exactly what you need to answer your unique questions. It's a unbelievable kind and brilliant part of Who He is. Claim that personal part of Himself that He gives especially to you, and never let it go, because it can never change.
Step 5. Looks down. You've stepped off the cliff, and yet you're safer that you were before. Why? Because God's still holding your hand! And now you know something new about Him, too, something personal just for you. In one breath, your world changes, and the Lord gets to demonstrate to you His faithfulness that simple will not fail.
Now, you've still got the same financial concern, you say. I know, but that's okay--because when you're secure in God's faithfulness, when you do not doubt Him, you can go and face that problem with a different light. It's not dealing with it by expecting God to make it disappear; it's an approach that says instead, "Hey! God's still here, so together I know we can handle this part of my life." It's stepping in our need and being rewarded with a security only God can give. And it's only the beginning.
Yet I can poor and needy; come quickly to me, O God. You are my help and my deliverer; O Lord, do not delay.
Psalm 70:5
The sheep's job----our job---is to watch the Shepherd.
We cannot separate
'Cause You're part of me
and though You're invisible
I trust the unseen
If it's to be, it's up to the Lord and me
Trust, Surrender, Believe, Receive
