“You will not need to fight in this battle. Position yourselves, stand still and see the salvation of the LORD, who is with you…. Do not fear or be dismayed…for the LORD is with you” (2 Chron. 20:17).
Last week—once the CAN Spam filters allowed the prayer requests to go through—we talked about the power and the importance of the twenty-six lead soldiers (the alphabet), as well as the awesome responsibility we have as believers and writers to use them honorably. But there is one other thing about these lead soldiers that we need to remember: When we choose to use them as God has gifted and called us to do, we are placing ourselves on the front lines of spiritual warfare.
As someone who has been working/writing in CBA for a quarter-century and served as a pastor for several years, I know firsthand that the deeper we are entrenched in and committed to proclaiming the gospel, the heavier and more deadly is the opposition. Jesus warned us to “count the cost” before going into battle, not because He wants us to turn and run (we certainly don’t want to be AWOL!), but because when we count the cost, we realize the intensity of the battle and we understand how absolutely impotent we are in the face of such evil. And that is exactly where our Commander-in-Chief wants us to be—totally dependent upon Him—for the battle is not ours but God’s, and He has already won the war. Our part is to stand where He has positioned us, humbly and confidently, knowing there will be injuries and even casualties, but knowing also that we are simply being obedient to the Great Commission and waiting to hear the words, “Well done, good and faithful servant….”
