" His Eye is on the Sparrow " exploring God's faithfulness :::
(A DEVOTIONAL)
God's faithfulness is of great interest and importance to us as human beings. After all, we are placing our hope and confidence in his words and promises for our real life. Like inching out onto a tree limb, we don't want it sawed off behind us. According to one dictionary I have, someone who is faithful is steadfast in affection or allegiance and firm in adherence to promises. Is that you, Lord?
This is what the Bible says: "Know therefore that the Lord your God, he is God, the faithful God, who keeps his covenant and his loving-kindness to a thousand generations" (Deuteronomy 7:9). God truly is faithful at all times and in all ways. His faithfulness extends to every part of his creation and it extends to you.
Right now I am reading a book about UFOs and Extraterrestrials from a Christian perspective. I find the various scientific approaches and opinions about this subject fascinating. In the early part of the book there is a discussion about hospitable environments for sustaining life and that leads to a discussion about the incredibly vast number of planets and stars. I was floored by the number of objects in the heavens; I just can't get my brain to think that big. Yet the Bible says: "He counts the number of stars; he gives names to all of them." (Psalm 147:4) In another place it talks about the heavens and the moon and the stars being "the work of thy fingers". (Psalm 8:3)
Can you picture him sitting at a workbench forming a planet in his fingers, eyeing it from various angles to make sure it is just right, setting it into the universe exactly where he wants it to be-maybe giving it a little spin, and then saying, "Okay, now your name is..."
This is the same God whose eye is on the sparrow.
"Are not two sparrows sold for a cent? And yet not one of them will fall to the ground apart from your Father. But the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Therefore do not fear; you are of more value than many sparrows." (Matthew 10:29-31)
God's faithfulness is anchored in his love, his concern, his care over every detail. He demonstrates it from the vastness of the stars in the heavens to the tiny bird that falls from a nest upon the earth. He demonstrates it in your life and in my life. But his faithfulness is better experienced than explained. In this portion of the cupboard we will look at the incredible faithfulness of God...
